Study Links Kidney Disease & Sitting

In a study just released, University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust found that sitting for long periods of time is indeed linked to kidney disease.

For instance, sitting at work from 9 to 5 makes a significant impact on your kidney health. One counter measure to all this sitting is exercise. This includes brisk walking, jogging, or running on the treadmill.

The study showed men and women who sat less than 3 hours a day were at the lowest risk of developing a chronic kidney disease, while those who sat for 8 or more hours were at greatest risk.

One way to help lessen the side effects of a sedentary occupation is to take breaks during the day to walk around the building, stretch or even jog in place.

Circulation is key for kidney health and for preventing other chronic conditions such as diabetes & heart disease.

You can increase circulation through stopping your work every 60 to 90 minutes to stretch and do breathing exercises.
