Mediterranean Foods Result In Greater Weight Loss

Researchers, in a letter last week in the New England Journal of Medicine, collected data from a two-year work-based program called the Dietary Intervention Randomized Controlled Trial.

They randomly assigned 322 moderately obese people, mostly men, to the three diet categories. Mediterranean regional diet, low-fat & low-carbohydrate diets.

Moderately obese people who followed a Mediterranean diet lost more weight than those who ate either a low-fat or a low-carbohydrate diet, researchers reported.

After two years, the average weight loss was 6.4 pounds in the low-fat group, almost 10 pounds in the Mediterranean group, and 10.3 in the low-carb group. By then, 259 people remained in the study.

When dieters adopted the foods & flavors of those who live in the Mediterranean region, they naturally consumed meals higher in vegetables, legumes (beans), grilled meats, fish & olive oil.

The food is delicious and so fulfilling as well.
